The Weekend Van Problem
Why Transporters Suffer More Than Most Vans
The Transporter has a usage pattern almost no other van shares. Thousands of T6 and T6.1s are campervan conversions that sit on the drive from Monday to Friday, then do a short hop to a campsite and back. Others are tradesman’s vans pottering between local jobs and rarely stretching their legs. Both routines are exactly what an SCR system hates: the exhaust never stays hot for long enough, unused urea dries out and hard crystals slowly choke the doser and its lines.
Once dosing goes off target, the NOx sensors report the shortfall, the engine light arrives and a VW Transporter AdBlue warning starts nagging on every trip. Left alone it escalates to a restart countdown, which is a miserable discovery on the morning of a holiday departure. Our guide to the AdBlue warning light walks through each stage and what it means.
Failed NOx sensors are so central to Transporter trouble that many owners arrive at our NOx sensor delete page first, having already paid for one sensor only to watch its partner fail months later.
Transporter complaints we hear daily
- Transporter T6 AdBlue fault returning weeks after a garage repair
- T6.1 AdBlue problems on low-mileage campers and weekend vans
- Restart countdown appearing days before a planned trip away
- NOx sensors failing one after the other at several hundred pounds each
- Dosing and SCR efficiency codes that a clear-down never cures
Generations and Engines
T6 or T6.1, Which Transporter Do You Have?
The facelift in 2019 changed more than the front bumper. It marks the line between Transporters that might have AdBlue and Transporters that definitely do.
Transporter T6, 2015 to 2019
The T6 launched with a mix of Euro 5 and Euro 6 versions of the 2.0 TDI, so not every van of this era carries a urea tank. The Euro 6 examples do, and by now many have covered the kind of mileage where the doser, tank sender and NOx sensors all start letting go. A T6 that has spent its life on short local work is usually worse off than a motorway van with twice the miles.
Unsure whether yours is affected? Send the registration through our quote form and we will tell you exactly what the van is fitted with before any money changes hands.
Transporter T6.1, 2019 Onwards
From the T6.1 facelift onwards every 2.0 TDI, from the 90 horsepower workhorse to the 199 horsepower twin-turbo, runs SCR as standard. These are the vans generating the surge in T6.1 AdBlue problems we now see: dosing valves gummed by crystallised urea, tank level and heater errors and NOx readings drifting out of tolerance while the van is barely run in.
The engines are shared across the VW commercial range, and our tested solutions cover the full T6.1 line-up. The Volkswagen AdBlue delete page looks at the Crafter, Caddy and the passenger cars alongside it.
Software, Not Parts
A Permanent Answer That Comes to Your Drive
Chasing Transporter emissions faults part by part gets expensive fast: a doser here, a sensor there, and the next weak link is already waiting. We solve it once instead. After confirming the stored faults with a diagnostic scan, your original ECU calibration is saved and a modified file is installed that retires the SCR monitoring on your exact engine code. No warnings, no countdown, no more topping up before every trip.
The visit happens wherever the van lives, home, workplace or storage site, anywhere across London, Surrey, Sussex and Kent. Nothing is removed from the vehicle, conversions and pop-tops are no obstacle, and the price starts from £250 with our lifetime software warranty attached for good measure.
The main AdBlue delete page explains the technique in more depth, and you can see all popular models we get asked about if you run more than one vehicle.
Diagnostic Codes
Transporter AdBlue and NOx Codes We Retire
These five turn up on Transporter scan reports more than any others. Rather than replacing whichever component tripped this month, our reprogramming removes the entire chain from the equation.

Transporter Owners Ask Us
No. T6 vans built between 2015 and 2019 were sold in both Euro 5 and Euro 6 forms, and only the Euro 6 versions carry SCR. From the T6.1 onwards every 2.0 TDI has it. Give us the registration and we will confirm which system, if any, your van runs.
Light use is the cause, not the exception. Urea sitting in a rarely driven system dries and crystallises, and short journeys never generate the sustained exhaust heat needed to keep the doser clear. That is why pampered campers often fault sooner than hard-working trade vans, and why the problem returns after every repair.
Yes, conversions are a large share of our Transporter work. The fix is carried out through the diagnostic port, so furniture, beds and roof conversions are never disturbed. We attend at your home or the van’s storage location anywhere across London, Surrey, Sussex and Kent.
It is. The modified calibration lives in the ECU and has nothing mechanical to wear out, so once the SCR monitoring is retired it stays retired. Our lifetime software warranty backs every job, and should a main dealer flash ever restore the factory file we reinstall ours at no cost.
